A Place in the Sun by R.S. GreyWhen her mother’s incessant matchmaking hits an all-time high, Georgie Archibald does what any sensible woman would do: she flees the country.
Seeking refuge in the picturesque seaside village of Vernazza, Italy, Georgie’s only plan is to lie low, gorge herself on gelato, and let the wine and waves wash her troubles away... that is until she wakes up in a bed that belongs to the most romantic-looking man she’s ever seen.
After going out of his way to rescue her, the former London financier turned mysterious recluse makes it clear that despite acting as her white knight, he has no plans to co-star in her fairytale.
But Georgie isn’t asking for his heart—she’s merely intrigued.
After all, Gianluca isn’t just gorgeous—tall and tan from days spent in the sun—his touch sets her world on fire. With him, Georgie experiences the most intoxicating passion she’s ever known, and it only takes a few steamy nights for her to realize that sometimes running away from trouble is the best way to find it.

A Place in the Sun (1951) Part 2
The film was a popular and critical hit, winning six Academy Awards. Montgomery Clift played George Eastman , an oppressed young man from the wrong side of town. Despite having wealthy relatives, Eastman can find no entry into the opulent lifestyle that he craves—until he falls in love with a beautiful young socialite Elizabeth Taylor , whom he wishes to marry. His plans go awry when his ex-girlfriend Alice Shelley Winters announces that she is pregnant and demands that she and Eastman be wed. He desperately attempts to put off the unwanted marriage, and he takes Alice on a boat ride during which he plans to kill her. Although he changes his mind, Alice drowns when the boat accidentally capsizes. Eastman is found guilty of her murder and is sentenced to death.
The black and white film plays on the audience's emotions, by involving and drawing them into complicity with the tragic resolution. Methodically, the film is stylistically dark, almost with film-noirish qualities, yet it has some of the most romantic and passionate sequences ever filmed - between the radiant debutante, 18 year-old Elizabeth Taylor in her first adult role and 29 year-old Montgomery Clift, who stars as a laboring wage slave. Its theme emphasizes the wide gap between the frivolous rich and the downtrodden, outsider poor, and how fate heavy-handedly can control life. An aspiring, upwardly-mobile, lonely working-class protagonist with evangelical roots is obsessed with getting ahead and 'making it. But then he becomes victimized by his environment, circumstances, the society of the time, and the loss of his own morals when he impregnates a lowly, disenfranchised, clingy, and plain co-worker. This first-rate melodramatic film is an adaptation of Theodore Dreiser's lengthy, best-selling novel, An American Tragedy , and it was also based on the Patrick Kearney play. It has been noted that A Place in the Sun was the first of director Stevens' "American trilogy" of films - the other two films were the classic western Shane and epic Giant
