Garde Manger by Chuck HughesChuck Hughes is the star of Food Network Canada’s and The Cooking Channel’s (US) Chuck’s Day Off, a show featuring the charismatic chef cooking for friends and family on his day off at his Montreal restaurant, Garde-Manger. Fabulously energetic, fun and a skilled chef, Chuck definitely has star quality and splash factor. His star is on the rise in the US, with his show airing there on the Cooking Channel, and his impressive win last spring on Iron Chef, beating none other than Bobby Flay. Chuck was also one of the competitors on the US Food Network’s Next Iron Chef: Super Chefs and last holiday season his first Christmas special aired, Chuckmas.
The cookbook features recipes from his restaurant and his show, and they are down-to-earth but festive, yet never fussy. What’s wonderful about the book is the energy the design brings—it matches Chuck’s own style and approach to cooking and to life. One can only assume this is the first of many cookbooks from Chuck Hughes.

Fine Dining: The Bremner
By Evelyn Reid. Montreal foodies call it one of the hottest restaurants of the moment. But that moment is showing no signs of letting up. Ever since it opened itself to public scrutiny in early July with a zero-fanfare-no-press-release-nothing-nada launch after a few tests and trials with friends and VIPs, Le Bremner has been perpetually booked up weeks ahead, so do make reservations if you intend on dining in said diner. And don't blink or you'll miss the front door. Staff makes you work for that table. But it's worth it, folks.
You have to make reservations 1 month in advance if you want to eat at this restaurant. You also need to be adventurous because this restaurant does not have a standing menu they a black board and have a weekly menu. You can find seafood wich I had when I went it was Jerk Snow crab, OMG it was amazing, they also have these insane seafood platter that most of the custumers where ordering with oyster, cocktail shrimp, crab just to name a few. I like a good caesar the drink and this one was a good one and they normely have a poultry option, beef and pork. The quality of the food and the service is amazing.
Chuck Hughes is a force to be reckoned with, but there's so much more about this Canadian culinary talent that you need to know. I bet he was the cutest! He had the honour of hosting the Prime Minister last spring at an event at Garde Manger promoting culinary tourism to Canada. What does the PM like to eat? He unconditionally, with every fibre of his being, loves hockey. Vans have been his go-to shoe since he was 13, and he has such a tight relationship with the brand that they created a Vans kitchen shoe especially for him. And fancy stuff?
