Billie Paul Piper born Leian Paul Piper   on 22 September   began her career as a pop singer in her teens, but is now best known for her part as Rose Tyler , companion to the Doctor , in Doctor Who. After studying at London-based Sylvia Young Theatre School , Billie Piper's first break in the entertainment world came as a teenager, when she was selected for a television commercial promoting the pop magazine Smash Hits. Her role was to run up to the camera, blow a bubble and shout "Pop! In she became the youngest artist ever to debut at number one in the UK singles chart with "Because We Want To", released under the single name "Billie". Her follow-up single, "Girlfriend", also debuted at Number One and her first album, Honey to the B released immediately afterwards debuted at Number 14 in the UK album charts and was certified Platinum for album sales. She released two further singles off the album, "She Wants You" and "Honey to the Bee"; both songs debuted at Number 3.

She began her career in the late s as a pop singer. Later on, she moved to acting. Her most famous role is as Rose Tyler , a companion to the Doctor in the television series Doctor Who. She played this role from to , and also reprised it in and Piper's first chance in the entertainment world came when she was a teenager, when she was selected to appear on the Saturday morning kids' television show Scratchy and Co. Piper later got a role in a television commercial promoting the pop magazine Smash Hits.
At the age of 15 she released her debut single " Because We Want To ", which made her the youngest artist to enter at number one on the UK Singles Chart. In , she released her second album, Walk of Life. In , she retired from the recording industry and began an acting career. Piper has starred in five plays since and was given a Laurence Olivier Award for her performance in Yerma. She went on to win a total of six Best Actress awards for that one performance, including the Olivier Award, making Piper the only actor to have won six out of an available six Best Actress awards for a single performance. Piper was born in Swindon, Wiltshire. She later landed a role in a television commercial promoting the pop magazine Smash Hits.
