The Witness

By the way, I am reading the version, where it has the high-tech QR codes that I can scan through my iPhone and it will automatically open a video link and watch a brief teaching from the author, Rick Warren. Rick Warren started to describe five common things that drive us : guilt, resentment and anger, fear, materialism and need for approval. I cannot help but remember how I used to be a year ago after I started moving on when my relationship failed. I felt guilty before because I had the chance to come out clean earlier on but I hesitated with fear and self-disgust. There were times in that relationship that I could have fixed all the past issues but I hesitated. And when the relationship was crumbling down and when I faced my ex, he somehow threw all the things I have done in the past straight on my face.

I observed that the basic motive for successis the driving force of envy and jealousy! Ecclesiastes LB The man without a purpose is likea ship without a rudder-a waif,a nothing, a no man. I know how to live when I am poor, and I know how to live when I have plenty. I have learned the secret of being happy at anytime in everything that happens … I can do all things through Christ, because He gives me strength. Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time, excepting hardship as the pathway to peace. Taking as Jesus did this simple world as it is not as I would have it. Trusting that you God will make all things right if I surrender to your will so that I may be reasonable happy in this life, and supremely happy with you forever in the next.

Warren lists five of the most common driving forces. Though not an exhaustive list, these probably summarize most people. Warren follows his summary of these driving forces by stating that this forty-day journey will show me how to live a life that is driven by purpose rather than by fear, guilt, resentment, materialism or the need for approval. None of these can compensate for a life with no purpose. He states that God will ask us two questions. Though in theory I agree, I do not like to see such things downplayed. Sound doctrine and a solid walk with God is critical to the Christian life.
