When Jesus Wept (The Jerusalem Chronicles #1) by Bodie ThoenePage-turning . . . Set against the political and religious turmoil of the times, the Thoenes story vividly reimagines the evolving friendship between Jesus and Lazarus. ---Publishers Weekly
LAZARUS---the man Jesus raised from the dead in one of the most extraordinary encounters with The Living Savior in all of Scripture. But the life of Lazarus holds interest well beyond this miraculous event. Living in Bethany, near Jerusalem, Lazarus witnessed many of the most important events of Jesuss life and ministry.
Lazarus owned a vineyard and devoted his life to caring for its vines and fruit. But he encountered another man---Jesus---whose vineyard was the world, its fruit the eternal souls of men. When Lazaruss story and the story of Jesuss crucifixion and resurrection touch in When Jesus Wept, we are offered a unique vision into the power and comfort of Christs love.
Brock and Bodie Thoenes most powerful and climactic writing project to date, When Jesus Wept, captures the power and the passion of the men and women who lived through the most important days in the history of the world.

But now they are hidden from your eyes. For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation. The Son of God cried. When Jesus heard of the death of His friend Lazarus He wept. Standing before the great city Jerusalem, the Lord shed tears of grief for the calamity that would come in less than four decades. The city of God was an ancient city.

JESUS (English) Jesus Weeps over Jerusalem
The scene is a sad one. Jesus, the Messiah of Israel, comes near the city of Jerusalem, and weeps over it. Its foundations rested upon the Salem of Melchizedek and the Jebus of the Jebusites. Jerusalem was rebuilt by a remnant of the Jews under Zerubbabel, Ezra, and Nehemiah. It had heard the voice and seen the face of the Son of God. But as the awful day it crucified our Saviour approached, Jesus wept over the city. Jesus cried for Jerusalem at least three times.

Jesus Weeps by Linda Richardson. I have a God who weeps for me, weeps with me, understands to the depths and from the inside the rerum lachrymae , the tears of things. This sonnet, and the others I will be posting for Holy Week are all drawn from my collection Sounding the Seasons , published by Canterbury Press here in England. The book is now also out on Kindle. Please feel free to make use of these sonnets in church services and to copy and share them.
