The Jungle by Upton Sinclair (Book Summary) - Minute Book Report

The Seeonee pack of wolves in the jungle head to their family lair when, thanks to the gossip of the jackal Tabaqui, they hear Shere Khan , the tiger with a pronounced limp but passion for fighting, is approaching. Mother Wolf protects her four cubs but is amazed to see a little, naked, brown human cub running into the cave. He is the prey that the tiger is looking for.

The Jungle Book Summary

The Jungle Book is seven mostly unrelated short stories—some not even in the jungle—and seven short works of verse related to the story. The first set of three stories stars a young boy named Mowgli. He is raised by wolves, trained by a bear, kidnapped by monkeys, rescued by a panther and a snake, and kills and skins a tiger. All this before he hits puberty. In "The White Seal," Kotick, the titular white seal, who lives in the Bering Sea which is not the jungle , sees his adorable, cute, cuddly, fuzzy seal buddies get clubbed to death and their bloody skins ripped from their little bodies. He decides to search for an island where all seals can be safe, but when he finds it, all the seals are too lazy to move.

Kill Bill: Vol. Sign in. After a threat from the tiger Shere Khan forces him to flee the jungle, a man-cub named Mowgli embarks on a journey of self discovery with the help of panther Bagheera and free-spirited bear Baloo. The man-cub Mowgli flees the jungle after a threat from the tiger Shere Khan. Guided by Bagheera the panther and the bear Baloo, Mowgli embarks on a journey of self-discovery, though he also meets creatures who don't have his best interests at heart. Living among the wolves in the jungle, young man cub Mowgli quickly learns to live life among his wolf pack and all the animals that inhabit the jungle, but when the villainous tiger Shere Khan threatens Mowgli's life, black panther Bagheera offers to take Mowgli to a nearby man village where he will be safe from the tiger's wrath.

Most of the characters are animals such as Shere Khan the tiger and Baloo the bear, though a principal character is the boy or "man-cub" Mowgli , who is raised in the jungle by wolves. The stories are set in a forest in India ; one place mentioned repeatedly is "Seonee" Seoni , in the central state of Madhya Pradesh.

Book Review of The Jungle Book

Allegedly, the stories were dedicated to his daughter who passed away at the age of six, not long after the first edition of the book was published. When mother wolf found him and accepted as one of her own calves, Mowgli was brought up and raised among animals who were taking good care of him and taught him the laws of the jungle. He was living happily and carefree, only the tiger Shere-Khan was spreading the fear among the jungle animals, scaring Mowgli as well. In this book animals are personified, becoming intelligent as humans, caring and emotionally attached to the little boy like he was the one of their own. Animals described have high moral standards, laws which they obey to and teach Mowgli about them. Besides vicious assassin tiger Sheer-Khan, humans are in the role of the leading villains in this book.

The Jungle Book is a collection of stories that relate the experiences of a human child, Mowgli, who is adopted and raised by wolves in an Indian jungle. As he grows up, he learns the ways of the jungle and the different personalities of its animals. He is accepted as a "wolf" by the other animals, but when he is finally exposed to humans, he begins to question his own identity. He resists the realization that he is human because he is dismayed by the greed and destructiveness of those who invade the jungle. He can accept stupidity or savagery, as characterized by certain members of the animal world, because each animal in its own way is true to its nature. But the greed of humans is beyond his understanding.
