The Infinity Crusade: Volume 1 by Jim Starlin

Adam Warlock’s supposedly good feminine side manifests as a separate being who promptly networks a bunch of cosmic cubes to gain nearly unlimited power and declares herself the Goddess. She also gets a whole bunch of superheroes to join her cause to purge the universe of evil. Sounds OK in theory, but turning a bunch of super beings into religious zealots in service to a leader whose ultimate goal is to bring about the Rapture has some serious downside.

The remaining good guys try to figure out what the Goddess’ plan is. Meanwhile, Adam Warlock is working his own angles to try and stop this aspect of himself, and his plan involves Thanos. I’m sure that will work out just fine…

As big crossovers go this one is far from the worst, and Starlin came up with plots that were epic in scope for all of the Infinity stories of the early ‘90s. However, this really should have been boiled down to just having the six Infinity Crusade issues in one collection instead of including issues of Warlock & the Infinity Watch and The Warlock Chronicles because they don’t add much except for giving Marvel the excuse to sell two trade paperbacks instead of one.

The Infinity Watch is the name of three fictional organizations appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. The first version of Infinity Watch was gathered in Warlock and the Infinity Watch 1, and starred in that series until it ended with issue The six members were the self-appointed guardians of the Infinity Stones , which were each given to a single member in order to safeguard against anyone else assembling them into the Infinity Gauntlet. When Adam Warlock obtains possession of the all-powerful Infinity Gauntlet that contained the six Infinity Gems from Thanos , he is ordered by the Living Tribunal to separate the Gems so that they might never be used in conjunction again. Under the Gauntlet's influence, Warlock is not in his right mind, and even he wondered if he had made the right choices later on.

In Castle Grimlock, the home of Geirrodur, he and his Troll Witch look upon their captives and discuss their sacrifice to Borgeddon. When they come to Pip, they discover that he has troll blood in him, so he is accorded certain rights. He shall face ritual combat, if he wins he goes free while the others die, if he loses they all die. He agrees to the combat, but is allowed a substitute, and he chooses Adam Warlock. Adam goes into the arena and faces off against Olik, the older brother of Ulik. Adam proceeds to fight rings around the huge troll, meanwhile, Pip frees the rest of the heroes.

Warlock and the Infinity Watch was a superhero team book that spun off from the events of 'The Infinity Gauntlet' and ran for 3 and a half years. The team was led by Adam Warlock, who had retrieved the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos and, by order of The Living Tribunal in issue 1 of this series must disperse the gems as for the safety of the cosmos they may no longer be used together. In issue 2 Warlock assembles his team: Pip the Troll given the space gem , Gamora given the Time gem , Drax the Destroyer given the power gem and Moondragon given the mind gem. Warlock keeps the soul gem to himself and gives the reality gem to a secret sixth unofficial team member. The Mole Man, within the boundaries of this series, is temporarily taking a leave of absense from villainy and would just like to have friends around; both for social reasons and to help protect his sovereign nation from repeated incursions from the United Nations. Midway through the series a new member is added, Maxam; an amnesiac time traveler from the future who Gamora has a precognitive flash will kill Warlock.
