My Heart and Other Black Holes by Jasmine WargaSixteen-year-old physics nerd Aysel is obsessed with plotting her own death. With a mother who can barely look at her without wincing, classmates who whisper behind her back, and a father whose violent crime rocked her small town, Aysel is ready to turn her potential energy into nothingness.
There’s only one problem: she’s not sure she has the courage to do it alone. But once she discovers a website with a section called Suicide Partners, Aysel’s convinced she’s found her solution: a teen boy with the username FrozenRobot (aka Roman) who’s haunted by a family tragedy is looking for a partner.
Even though Aysel and Roman have nothing in common, they slowly start to fill in each other’s broken lives. But as their suicide pact becomes more concrete, Aysel begins to question whether she really wants to go through with it. Ultimately, she must choose between wanting to die or trying to convince Roman to live so they can discover the potential of their energy together. Except that Roman may not be so easy to convince.
My Heart and Other Black Holes
This book made me realise why teenagers would consider committing suicide. At first I just wanted to read a sad book involving teenage romance and death like The Fault In Our Stars and judging by the blurb and the synopsis, it seems really sad. However, when you actually read the book it makes you realise how much these two teenagers have been through and what caused them to feel this way as well as how one unexpected decision can change your life. My Heart and Other Black Holes follows the story of Aysel, a girl many people are afraid of and therefore they tend to stay away from her, especially since they know that her father murdered Timothy Jackson, a legend who was about to compete for the Olympics. But ever since the murder, Aysel's life became hell and that is the reason why she wants to end it all. So whilst browsing 'Smooth Passages', a website made for those who want to commit suicide, she stumbles upon FrozenRobot whom she plans to commit suicide with.
First of all let's appreciate the cover. And not only this one,but every cover that this book has. They are all so beautifully done,so great job on that. My Heart and Other Black Holes is a contemporary novel, about Aysel and Roman who are different by personality but have the same goal,to commit suicide, and they decide to do it together. As things start to change, feelings start to spark and grow, some minds start to change too,but are they really that hopeless, and is there a way for them to see the light again?
HarperCollins published the novel on February 17, Sixteen-year-old physics nerd Aysel is obsessed with plotting her own death. Aysel thinks her future is a black hole. She looks online for a suicide partner, someone who would plan with her and make her go through with it. She comes across a boy whose handle is FrozenRobot. Roman is looking for someone to die with him on April 7, the anniversary of a horrible event in his life. This gives the teens less than a month the narrative begins on March 12 to plan and prepare for their suicides. It lives in her and eats up all the goodness and joy that there could be.
