Peeta & Katniss -- We have each other [Mockingjay]
What Do Peeta & Katniss Name Their Kids? The Children's Monikers Are A Total Mystery
It's old news to wonder what a celebrity couple's kids will look like. I'm all about speculating what my fictional favorite pairing's children will look like. Now that the waiting for Mockingjay Part 2 has begun, there's nothing to do but [spoiler] try to imagine who will play Katniss and Peeta's kids. It's all but confirmed that the film will end with the book's epilogue , and that means we'll get to see their son and daughter brought to life. The two characters don't even have names let alone actors attached to them yet, but that doesn't mean I can't start imagining who the movie will pick to play them. In the Mockingjay novel, Katniss describes her daughter as "the dancing girl with the dark hair and blue eyes," and her son as "the boy with blond curls and gray eyes, struggling to keep up with her on his chubby toddler legs.
She is Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark 's first child. She has a younger brother. She has long dark hair like Katniss and blue eyes like Peeta. She does not know of her parents' roles in the Games , as Katniss does not yet want her to know. However, she does recognize that she'll be taught as she matures. It is also mentioned that she likes to dance in the meadow.
A lot of loose ends are tied up in the Mockingjay epilogue , namely the fate of Katniss, Peeta and Gale. Yes, by the end of the final Hunger Games book, Katniss has made her decision and chosen Peeta over Gale. In the epilogue, Katniss and Peeta are living together in District 12 and it is revealed that Gale is off working in the new Panem government in District 2. Another thing revealed in the epilogue: Katniss and Peeta are parents! That's right, Everlark fans, Katniss and Peeta, the original Victors of District 12, have two kids: one daughter and one son. Before you get too giddy with joy, know that author Suzanne Collins left out one, very important detail: the names of their children.
Katniss and her family come from District 12 , a coal-mining district that is the poorest and least populated district in the dystopian fictional autocratic nation of Panem. In the course of the first book, The Hunger Games , Katniss volunteers to replace her sister, Primrose "Prim" Everdeen , after she is reaped chosen to compete in the Hunger Games , a televised fight to the death. Katniss, following an alliance with Rue, a young tribute from District 11 who reminded Katniss of Prim but died in the arena, joins up with fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark. The pair compete in the Games together. Katniss uses her knowledge of hunting and archery to survive, and the two become the victors after defying the Capitol's attempt to force one to kill the other. Throughout the next two novels, Catching Fire and Mockingjay , Katniss becomes a galvanizing symbol of rebellion against the oppressive Capitol. The idea for the trilogy was based in part on the myth of Theseus and the Minotaur , in which each year seven boys and seven girls from Athens are sent to Crete as tributes to that land to be devoured by the Minotaur, a cycle that continues until Theseus kills the Minotaur.
Sometimes Suzanne Collins is wonderfully detailed in her novels, but when it came time to naming the book's most important offspring, she was not so forthcoming. So [spoilers ahead] what are Katniss and Peeta's kids named? Honestly, nobody really knows for sure. Although The Hunger Games author gave readers a pretty good description of the couple's son and daughter, we don't know much about them beyond what they look like. In the Mockingjay epilogue they're described as such: "The dancing girl with the dark hair and blue eyes. The boy with blond curls and gray eyes, struggling to keep up with her on his chubby toddler legs. Naturally, not knowing has lead to a lot of debate amongst the fans.
