King Eric Gibson is a Bahamian legend. He has also been called a national treasure. The Acklins native, born in , is one of the most famous musicians in the Bahamas. Not only is he a legend in Bahamian entertainment but also in the regatta. No one person has contributed more to the regatta than King Eric.
Eric Gibson M. Eric recalls being called on to provide musical accompaniment for his co-workers, simply because of his Gibson name which had become synonymous with music. In fact, the island of Acklins where he was born is well known for its strong musical heritage and has produced many of the finest musicians in the Bahamas. In the early days, small combos were formed to perform at lodge halls for special events. But the attractiveness of the studio extended further than the pool of entertainers residing in The Bahamas.
