Vampire The Masquerade: We Eat Blood and All Our Friends Are Dead by Zak Sabbath

Told entirely from a mobile messaging perspective, We Eat Blood is a sharp, mature and often terrifying story about your first nights as unwilling predator and prey. Hunted by unknown enemies and driven by an alien hunger, will you sever your ties with the mortal world or try to cling to your former life? Will you join ancient conspiracies, or turn the tables on forces older than the written word? Terrible power lies within your grasp, but there is always a price to pay.”

An entertaining duo who shock the senses a lot less than you might have expected

Translating a tabletop RPG that is generally politics- and story-heavy into a video game is a difficult task under any circumstances. Trying to do this and make a successful follow-up to the now cult classic Bloodlines is downright impossible. Anyone who plays visual novels or ever picked up a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure book will be more or less familiar with the concept: you read a bit, taking on the role of the protagonist, and periodically you are presented with a choice. It might be an action, it might be dialogue. No, really.

Perhaps full sensitisation on audiences has taken hold, as any show with a title such as All Our Friends Are Dead would ordinarily suggest something a bit dark, maybe slightly creepy. Yet, this hour from Katie Norris and Sinead Parker whose work has also been inspired by the bleaker output of Chris Morris and Julia Davis is a largely playful, eminently silly set rather than a production of anything that nudges against notions of taste. Particularly enjoyable was the shades-wearing northern poet Jackie Cooper Clarke now who can that be based on, we wonder? One or two sections let the flow down such as the Farmer Needs a Wife reality show section but they keep the pace ticking over, flinging clothes and wigs over themselves from the abundant rack at the side of the stage at a terrific rate. But, whether for good or ill, shock comedy this is not. Just the Tonic at The Caves, , until 30 Aug, 8. Norris and Parker Dark and anarchic sketches full of twisted characters, satirical songs and close to the bone tragicomedy.
