Several years ago, he was trying to come up with an idea for a new show when he happened to talk to his year-old nephew on the phone. The nephew mentioned that he was reading the Hardy Boys, and something clicked in his uncle's head. He recalled that as a youngster he had read every single Hardy Boys book in the school library. He then made a quick trip to a bookstore, where he found that the books were still enormously popular. Out of this conviction came ''The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo,'' the Nickelodeon cable network's first whodunit series. The first six episodes of the half-hour show were broadcast last spring, and, because of the favorable response from critics and young audiences alike, the series returned last month - with seven new episodes - in a prime-time slot, Saturday at 9 P. She lives with her grandfather, Mike Woo played by the veteran actor Pat Morita , a former criminologist who now runs a bed-and-breakfast in Cocoa Beach, Fla.

Episodes from the first three seasons were taped at the now defunct Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Florida , and was one of the few single-camera productions there, while season 4 episodes were shot in Montreal , Quebec , Canada.

The Mystery Files of Shelby Woo is a youth-oriented action mystery television series that ran on Nickelodeon between and A total of 41 episodes of 30 minutes each were produced. Episodes were taped at the now defunct Nickelodeon Studios in Orlando, Florida. The series revolves around the adventures of a young teenage girl who lives with her innkeeper grandfather and works as a non-sworn intern at the local police department where she helps out with odds and ends around the office. Occasionally an intriguing case comes to Shelby's attention, prompting her to apply her unique insight and enlist the help of her friends to solve it. Her supervisors, however, do not appreciate her help, as she is only a teenager.
